Newsletter for April 2008

NEXT MEETING is on Wed, April 16th. We will have a First Degree in honor of Pope Benedict XVI. Come join us, and see who comes on board! Let Marsh Frey or Ed Gilkes know about a friend who wants to join. "The man who stands with us never stands alone."

KNIGHTS OF THE MONTH – Rick Maier and Ron Gundrum – These men play a very important role in our council. This past year, they coordinated the firewood project that amounted to nearly $2,500.00 in direct income in addition to saving the parish significant expense. Both Rick and Ron are in leadership roles on the bowling tournament committee. They, along with their spouses, Lori and Kathy, support our school, council and community in many ways. Congratulations Rick and Ron!

EASTER CONCERT AT THE MANOR was held Thursday, March 27. Thanks to all the Knights who participated.

92ND ANNUAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT CELEBRATION SATURDAY, APRIL 19TH will start at 7:00PM in the St. John's school cafeteria. We have so much to celebrate! The tournament has been a huge success because so many Knights stepped forward to provide support. Anyone who helped and/or supported the event in any way, large or small, is invited. Spouses or guests included. Dinner will be served. Curt Dresen will need help with set-up, grilling, etc. Please call him if you can lend a hand or if you can bring a dessert.

LAST CHANCE for RAFFLE TICKETS
BOWLING TOURNAMENT RAFFLE – Brett Favre / AJ Hawk autographed and framed prints, Trek bikes, cash and more, drawing April 13 – contact Rick Maier.
KC CHARITY RAFFLE TICKETS - $135,000 in prize money, plus other prizes - drawing April 26th, contact Paul O. Endres.

IN OUR PRAYERS Ed and Char Helenbrand's daughter Kari, son-in-law Dan Kruchten, and grandson Chase who lost their home to fire in February.

APRIL 15TH IS JUST AROUNFD THE CORNER - It's become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax savings vehicle. With the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Contact Dennis O'Connell, FICF, at (800)795-4287 or dennis.o'connell@kofc.org.

ROSARY: Waunakee Manor, 6:15 pm Thursdays
The schedule for the upcoming month is:
April 3rd: Harry Vos & Vince Endres
April 10th: Dan Meyer, Gil Roessler & Steve Gieshirt
April 17th: Earl Miller, Ernie Labarre & Rick Maier
April 24th: Bob Niesen & Delbert Schutz
PGK Vince Endres is Rosary Chair.

KC ANNUAL TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE will be held May 2-4, the warmest weekend we could find! Providing assistance to agencies that aid families with disabilities champions our principle of charity to those most in need. Please consider a donation of $5.00, the cost of a raffle ticket. If you can help for a few hours that weekend, please call Jim Bardenwerper or Fred Riederer . Pope Benedict's recent intention supports our efforts, "That the mentally handicapped may not be marginalized but respected and lovingly helped to live in a way worthy of their physical and social condition."

DEDICATION OF THE NEW CHURCH – June 15, 2008. We have been asked to help with the dinner that will follow. About 15 people are needed. Tim Kiefer has volunteered to coordinate our involvement. Thank you Tim!

SECOND AND THIRD DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATIONS are scheduled for May 3rd in Sauk City. This is an excellent way to continue your KC journey. Rick Raemisch is organizing our involvement. Please call to sign-up.

RECENT CONTRIBUTION COMMITMENTS – We voted to help fund the refinishing of the gym floor ($3,500.00) and help fund the safety patrol outing ($400.00).

RON FAUST, STATE RESPECT FOR LIFE COORDINATOR will share his good work at our May 21st meeting. How can we build-up our ongoing commitment to life?

107TH ANNUAL WISCONSIN STATE COUNCIL CONVENTION – April 26&27 – Wisconsin Dells.

Fraternally yours,
Jim Tillman
Grand Knight
