Newsletter for April 2009

NEXT MEETING is Wednesday, April 15, 7 PM with guest Mary Claire from the Central Wisconsin Center. Please ask a friend to join us at the upcoming First Degree, Sunday, April 19, 7 PM.

OUR SYMPATHY GOES TO THE FAMILY OF BROTHER KNIGHT ALBERT KOCH. Albert was called to eternal rest March 5, 2009.

KNIGHT OF THE MONTH is Paul Wiesler. Paul is an active member of our adult choir and frequently cantors. He also is a leader in our KC Choir and helps with other events. Thank you and congratulations Paul!

KC FAMILY OF THE MONTH goes to Don and Carol Statz. They have two sons, Brett and Payton. Don and Carol have been active in the parish by helping with the picnic, auction, and the building campaign. Don has been a coach for numerous youth athletic teams. For all you do for parish and community, thank you Don and Carol!

THE SHINING ARMOR AWARD was given to Erik Hayko at our March meeting. During Erik's first year of membership, he worked at council events, attended business meetings, received his Third Degree, recruited a new member and met with our general agent. Erik is currently working on bringing the Traveling Chalice Program to St. John's. Congratulations Erik!

THANK YOU'S TO MANY - For the guys who helped with the mission refreshments; to Tom Dorn and his team who did Life Savers For Life; Ron Gundrum and all the volunteers for our roller skating events; Dennis Puccetti who has been helping with the Family of the Month program; our bowling team that recently finished in second place; and last, not least, Rick Maier who has organized our Thursday night open gym.

TWO NEW EVENTS – Cooking breakfast for our graduating seniors on May 31st. Dennis Hampton offered to be the chair. We'll also be staffing a food booth at the September 19th Badger football game. Jay Pitz will lead our efforts. Please call Dennis and Jay to lend them a hand.

RECENT DONATIONS – Diocesan Youth Retreat $150, Waunakee Food Pantry $350, Girl Scouts for leadership training $100, Cub Scouts for religious awards $100, Monte Alverno Retreat Center $500, Mark Laufenberg Benefit $200.

A SECOND AND THIRD DEGREE ARE SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, MAY 2, 2009 AT ST. JOHN'S SCHOOL IN WAUNAKEE
9:30 AM Second Degree registration; 10:30 Second Degree exemplification; 11:30 Lunch served (free will offering); 12:15 PM Third Degree registration; 1:00 Third Degree exemplification; 3:30 Social hour and pizza. Each degree teaches important lessons that you will remember forever. Please contact Rick Raemich to register. Help will be needed to host the degrees. Others are welcome to attend and show support for our brother Knights! The next planning meeting will be April 13, 7PM in the council chambers.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A COUNCIL OFFICER? Nominations will be accepted at the May meeting. We'll vote in June.

KC ANNUAL TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE will be held May 1-3. Proceeds will go to the Central Wisconsin Center, Family Support and Resource Center and Birth to 3. Consider taking a box of Tootsie Rolls to the workplace or to a family event. Volunteer for a two hour shift. Co-chairs are Jim Bardenwerper and Fred Riederer.

JOIN THE KC CHOIR Saturday, April 4 for the 8 PM Mass, practice @7:15 PM. They will also sing at the Waunakee Manor, Thurs. April 16 at 6:30 PM. Paul Wiesler, chair.

OUR COUNCIL WILL AGAIN BE OFFERING $25.00 RELIGIOUS CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS – to St. John's and St. Mary's members. To apply, write a brief note with the following information: name, camp name, and date attending. Please include the parent / guardian names. Mail to: KC Camp Scholarship c/o Council 6371 P.O.
