Newsletter for May 2007

NEXT MEETING is on Wed, May 16th, beginning at 7 PM. Reminder – the North stairwell is also open – use that entrance!

WELCOME SEVEN BROTHER KNIGHTS! Seven men said "giving back" was a priority for them, and joined our organization in April! New members, from left, are Tom Dorn, Jerry Schremp, Dennis Hampton, Andy Beckerjack, John Hyland, Lee Kobza, and Tom Rawling. Make sure you introduce yourself to them! New Brother Knights

KNIGHT OF THE MONTH is Ron Gundrum. Ron over the Winter chaired KC Roller Skating at St. John School. When that finished up – he was looking for more KC work – and found it coordinating the log splitting here at St. John's. Thanks for seeing something that needed to be done – and stepping up! And Ron, thanks again for chairing KC Roller skating!

FAMILY OF THE MONTH is Tim and Darlene Kohn. Both of them have served on parish committees, Darlene recent on Parish Council. Tim has been quite active in our KC council events. They have a son and daughter, with the oldest attending Edgewood College next year. Thank you Tim and Darlene!

KC 35th ANNIVERSARY Brunch went great with about 65 attendees at Rex's on April 15th. State of Wisconsin KC's were represented by Tim Genthe, State Advocate, who talked about the importance of the organization – 125 years ago and today. The meaning of our Charter was described by Bob Zellner; Jim Tillman talked about our past; and Hank Kruschek gave us something more to smile about. Charter members attending were recognized, and John Andrewjeski was recognized with the "Lifetime Achievement Award". During the meeting we viewed the over 650 picture slide show comprised of photos from our 35 year history!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU was the recurring theme at the ANNUAL KC STATE CONVENTION just completed in Appleton. Inspiring to see Brother Knights from across this great state at this conference. About 1,100 for Mass; 780 for Banquet. Energizing!

TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE for Developmentally Disabled raised just under $3,000! Thank all of the Knights who volunteered their time; thanks to our community for supporting this great cause! All funds raised will be split equally between the Family Support and Resource Center; UCP Birth to Three Connections; and Central Wisconsin Center - less about $150 going to the Wisconsin Badger Camp for DD. Another Great Job Chairs Jim Bardenwerper, Fred Riederer, and Jim Tillman!

NOTE FROM District Deputy BILL BROSIUS; As we near the end of the Fraternal year, we start the process of nominations and elections of new officers. For some it is an exciting time - for others it maybe a bit scary. There are many brother knights when approached say they could never be an officer, but I disagree. We have elections every year is to keep the program alive with new ideas, fresh thoughts and new excitement. It is not difficult to be an officer, but once you have served your term, you will find it one of the most rewarding things you have done for yourself – and the KC's.

45 KC CHARITY RAFFLE WINNERS were selected – but none from our council: $50,000 – Merlin Baur, Mosinee; $25,000 Russ Denson, Dalton; $15,000, Ed Hei, Prescott; $10,000 Gerald Kokel, Marshfield; $5,000 Gary Arciszewske, Weyauwega and 20 $1,000 winners and 20 $500 winners. Charity Raffle raised about $660,000. Stay tuned for our second chance drawing winners – guaranteed four $25 winners amongst our council!
